Järvenpää in a nutshell
Järvenpää is a lively and vibrant city in Uusimaa and a good place to live, do business and engage in recreational activities. Our city has over 46,000 residents and about 3,000 businesses. The township of Järvenpää was founded in 1951 and became a city in 1967. Järvenpää is a compact city with services nearby. In Järvenpää, people can enjoy nature and the lake landscape, as our city is located on the shores of Lake Tuusula.
Our city is easy to reach! From Järvenpää, you can easily get to the Helsinki Metropolitan Area and the north. It is only 25 km from Järvenpää to Helsinki Airport, 38 km to Helsinki and 68 km to Lahti. By train, you can reach Helsinki in 30 minutes and Riihimäki in 28 minutes.

Participate and influence
As a resident, you can participate in and influence the activities of the City in many ways. You can give feedback to the City, take citizen initiatives, participate in volunteer activities or give your own tips on where the City’s funds should be spent (participatory budgeting).

Decision-making and organisation
The highest political power in the City is exercised by the City Council. Other decision-making bodies in our City are the City Board and various committees, divisions and advocacy bodies. The agendas and minutes (in Finnish) of the bodies are available in the City’s publication system.
Services for city residents are provided by the Urban Development, Education and Well-being service areas. Support functions for the service areas are provided by Group Services.
